Cell phone waiting area

So, I noticed yesterday when coming back from the San Jose airport that it now has a "cell phone waiting area". Rather than having people circle the airport over and over again since they don't want to pay for parking, this allows them to simply wait in the designated lot for up to half an hour for free. They just wait for a phone call from whoever they are picking up before leaving the lot. So far, it seems to be unknown enough that there's no problem finding a space.

Simple, yet brilliant. I can't wait to use this the next time I have to do a pickup at the airport.

I am guessing they are doing this not as much because they want to provide a service to people who wait for cell phone calls, but to releave congestion and accidents due to those people circling the airport while waiting for a call. I think there is no obvious reason why waiting at the cell phone parking should be free while people who part at the standard parking lot should pay - except that it would cost more to _not_ provide such a service.

I think its a good Idea.

You have to wait in your car in the cell phone waiting area, plus it's quite a walk from there to either of the terminals as compared to the other parking lots, so there is a certain advantage of using the pay lot/garage if you want to meet up in baggage claim to help carry luggage for example. Also, the cell phone waiting area is limited to a 30 minute wait time.

In addition to the benefits you mentioned, think of the reduced polution due to not running your car constantly while circling the airport.
